trillium is a gentle flower of the woods. it grows in a delicate carpet connected together by a common root that if disturbed will affect not just one but all. the root is known to be used as an aphrodisiac.
a mighty, glowing cacti used for spiritual practice. peyote gives you the power to look within, to call upon your calmest emotional strength to get you through. because brute force can only get you so far. this inner power has a longer lasting result.

not actually a plant, this fungi sits among other plant-life in the darkened spaces of the forest where its light-loving pals could not thrive. but still, it calls upon the power within to break down the decaying matter so that new life can grow.

one of the few plants that can lift itself up and move. but this movement isn't within its control. it's left up to fate to take this bumbling weed to its next location. you just have to trust that wherever its brought to is just another step in your own path, good or bad.
Strong Will / Triumph
take a look around your wild landscape. chances you will find the fuzzy mullein plant either sitting low against the ground or standing tall with its staff filled with yellow flowers. it has a focus of power, spreading itself from coast to coast, overcoming any of the challenging terrain it comes upon.

the willow tree is known for its flexibility. it moves with the wind. a fallen branch can re-root itself if close to water. its beautiful leaves turn gold and drop in the fall. you may be faced with a choice and the best way to deal with this is to remain flexible and non attached. learn from the willow.

a plant sought out for its numbing qualities; the poppy transforms first from a leaf, to a beautiful red flower, and then it lets go of these beautiful petals, leaving a bulky seed pod just before its death. there are all kinds of cycles in life, so be open to the endings, it's just another step.

the cattail sits between the land and the stillness of a pond, finding the perfect balance between its need for soil and water. its almost quiet presence is overlooked but it is simply intergrated perfectly into the landscape.

Bindweed's roots run deep beneath the soil and are stronger than they let on. seemingly they are pulled up easily, but it is an illusion. their roots snap, but that only removes what is shown above the surface. so much more runs beneath.
an eerily beautiful relative to the kind mint plant, pennyroyal can bring death to those who ingest it and is known as an abortive. change happens. sometimes it is hard, difficult, and terrible. but you will continue on and be stronger because of it.

rosemary is a comforting herb that reminds us of home. it is often a plant that we have been given at one point or another and is an inspiration to grow more.

the lily pads float just upon the surface but so much more lies below in the darkness of the water. trust your instincts because you will not be able to see with just your eyes.

the sunflower rises up over many other flowers late in the summer sun and smiles out over the horizon. it brings much joy and light to the landscape and reminds us that summer isn't quite over yet, but will come to a close. so enjoy this time while its here.
Forgiveness / Truth
the bulbs of the tulip lie in wait under the harsh winter ground. beneath snow and icy soil it waits patiently for the earliest signs of the spring sun. it is forgiving of these conditions and will raise its head up high, but don't assume spring is here just yet. a late snow could follow, don't jump to conclusions.

fall is here and fruit is filling the branches of the trees. pies, cider, and caramel apples are to come. it is a time of year that brings everyone together and fills them with warmth.

it is spring. the entire season is ahead of you. horsetail runs just beneath the soft surface and takes in everything that is around it. there is a limitless potential to this, but you also have to look closely at your surroundings to make sure you're taking in whats good for you.

the violet springs up early in the season. often you find them grouped together which is beneficial for both. safety in numbers. most plants will share resources when along side family members, working towards a comon goal.
Support from Others / Building Your Future
in the fall you can gather up cloves of garlic and plant them in preparation for spring. each plant will produce a bulb, which is many little cloves working together. it may be some effort to dig them up and plan ahead, but it creates more promise for the future.
Completion / Celebration
we have arrived in the midst of spring. the white daisy is iconic of this time even though you can find them growing throughout the year. there are many gatherings to wake everyone from the depths of winter. but don't stop now, there is a whole season to come.
Lack of Focus
vetch is a beautiful week that sprawls out along the landscape. it climbs over logs, bushes, rocks and grasses. but it will grow in all directions, at a quick rate. leaving itself spread thin and tangled up in any trouble it comes upon.
Rising Up / Success
ground ivy can mesh inbetween the ambitious blades of grass and quietly convert the land. it spreads it round leaves up, steadily taking in sun and soil until it establishes its own plot.
because of the lack of water in arid climates, the cacti store what they can within. they can go lengths of time drawing from this storage giving them the ability to outlast their hard times.
a gust of wind may change the way you thought things were going. while you may want to react to this situation, take a moment. perhaps you should stay rooted and ride it out. this might not be your battle.
the days are getting warmer and longer, spring is nearly over. lettuce is sensitive to this change and begins to bolt, go bitter, tall, and tough. there might be a little bit of time before the next crop comes to fruit. you can do what you can to slow this bolting process, but there is no use in worrying.

the thistle begins to sprout up as a weed in your garden. its small and cute, but once you go to uproot it you find your hands filled with sharp needles. dont go at them rashly, pace yourself. in time you can dig them all out with care.
Fleabane pops up where it pleases and moves with the breeze. it may lack focus which is problematic, but it also reminds us to go with the flow and you'll sometimes land in the right spot.
the daffodil is tall and cheery even after that surprise spring snow. stay confident about yourself.

Lilac sleeps all winter and then bursts forth with tall combs of flowers, filling the spring air with the most comforting smell. you would hardly know the type of winter she has gone through with the desplay she puts on.

Summer is here, the Columbine has grown and is showing us its eccentric flowers. everything is bright and sunny. its time to get your friends together and enjoy the weather.

the rose is the most common symbol for love, and yet it's wild sister may be less showy but has the hardiness to come back year to year. this is a time of building true connections. maybe its a wonderful romance, maybe its finding the place in the world where you belong, maybe the best friend you never had. enjoy this moment.
Lovage has wonderful smell and is an important member of thai soup. it grows up with a few stalks surrounding it, supporting each other. so come together and celebrate the company of those around you.

the desert sage spreads across the New Mexican landscape, trickling down from the Colorado desert. its made a home here, and it has taken over. you could focus on how it dominates the landscape, or you could appreciate the smell and texture it adds. apreciate what you have.

used in funeral arrangements, there is something about the look and smell of a lily. it is beautiful, but also sad. endings are something we all have to accept. look at what you have, there is a beauty in endings if you have the right outlook.

I spent many wonderful summer days racing around and finding these fun, fragrant little flowers. they were like little bells or small fairy hats. it was magical coming upon a grove of them. this is a moment in your life that will take you back to this innocent time.

the venus flytrap is not what it seems. it smells like garbage to lure its prey in, and appears to be some kind of animal-plant hybrid. things around you are not what you think, and clarity is hard to find. its normal to encounter temptation in life, but it is up to you to take a step back to figure out where to go next.

a hauntingly beautiful plant that has quickly invaded our landscape. Loosestrife is an invasive species in the northeast, choosing to take over stagnant pools and marshes, disrupting the water flow with its intertwining root systems, and causing poor health in these bodies of water. perhaps there is nothing left in this situation for you.

the maidenhair fern is a magical and delicate looking plant, taking much artistic liberty with the standard fern style. she is dreamy, but solid. has a good head on her shoulders when she chooses to listen.

the fern enjoys the relief from the summer sun in the cool environment of the forest floor. an imaginative choice for a plant, choosing dappled sunlight over the less diluted form. its sensitive, but also so much more lies below the ground.

Kava roots are used as a sedative, that relaxes but does not inhibit your mental clarity. your eyes go sleepy, your body feels warm, worries seem to melt away, but you can still think. you may drift into a deeper state, you may just fall into an deep sleep.
the wild licorice plant grows up tall throughout the summer and then puts out flowers of purple and white. its root is soothing to the stomach and tricky to harvest. it stands tall, but remains slightly flexible to whatever comes at it.
suit of Autumn (pentacles)
the cucumber grows quickly with the right temperatures, water and light. it really takes off, winding around whatever it can grab onto. suddenly your garden is filled with the prickly fruit, the first of your garden harvest.
the slightest chill has come through, the summer nights have a fall feel to them, and in this moment the maple trees begin to change. it is a delicate balance, leaves going from green to yellow to red. change always happens, and so take a note from the Maple tree and go gracefullyalong with it.

the aspen tree grows from a clonal colony, meaning the forests you see are really one tree that is a part of an intricate network. they focus all their energy towards a common goal, and support one another.

the potato, a steady crop that almost everyone eats. it is steady, strong, and versatile. you can count on the potato. however, you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket, so remember the reality of the potato famine.

in the late fall weather the deadly monkshood’s hypnotic blooms appear. its almost a haunting reminder of the dead winter that is to come. as one of the last flowers we want to preserve it, enjoy this last bit of life, but don’t be tempted. picking one could quickly result in death.

all the water, nutrition and love has paid off. gourds may take a bit of time to grow, but their fruits seem to last the longest. if you have grown more than you need be sure to share with those who need it. kindness will always come around again when you can afford to give it.

these red berries seem to appear out of the brush all around you. i suppose you can call them a weed, and you don’t really grow them. but it is still of use, and can be collected and preserved for the long winter months ahead of you. success may not be what you expect it to be, so look around and think outside of the box.

Peppers take much longer than you think they will. they need the right temperatures for so long to even get the smallest pepper. but once you’ve mastered it, the bounty will be great.
Stability / Happiness in the Home
The Beet takes root in the ground and establishes a space. its not easily pulled, taking anchor firmly into the ground. you can count on it to be there even as the weather turns cold, providing a delicious meal, even as everything else seems to give up in the chill.
Abundance / Completion
everyone seems to be inundated with zucchinis. you give them to neighbors. you add them to every meal. you even make desert with them. it is the true giver in the garden. the growing year has been a success.
Hardworking / Quiet
growing out in the mountains is where you can find the blueberry bush. defying all odds, growing delicious little berries as the air goes cold.
below the sandy soil the carrot takes root. growing deeply, and so much more substantial in form than its feathery leaves above.
the smell of lavender brings about thoughts of home. the warmth of a blanket by the fire. the comfort of clean laundry hanging to dry.
Juniper does not flinch, even as the winter snow arrives. it holds its evergreen leaves throughout the winter, and hunkers low to the ground it is rooted to.

traditionally tobacco was smoked ceremonially in sweat lodges, helping the participant find clarity and truth at whatever point of their life they were in.
Blockage / Stalemate
Bittersweet grows strong and quick, taking over any obstacle in its way and smothering it. its a beautiful plant, but its lovely berries are delicious to birds, who also spread this invasive plant far and wide. you cannot go further. look at the reason why.
Heartbreak / Betrayal
the delicate heart shaped flowers remind us that our heart may not be as tough as we would like. one hurtful word or action can tear a wound we may nurse for what feels like eons. keep going. there is a beautiful strength that comes from every scar.
Look Inward / Rest
in the midst of winter there is a stillness, even though these trees still live. there is a beauty and necessity in this pause. it is a time to go inward, to reflect, and withdraw.
the root of a mandrake resembles the human form. its for this reason that it was once used in magic rituals as a poppet. it is poisonous, and not much good can come from its use. but sometimes we need to destroy ourselves to get to the next state.

more commonly seen as a christmas tree, the spruce reminds us that in the midst of the death of winter we must find the positive and celebrate it. find family, go for a trip, celebrate friendship or whatever may be a success in your life.
the beech tree is associated with knowledge, but more often than not knowledge can be hidden. is it you who is the keeper, or are you the one that it is being kept from? half the leaves are kept in shadow.
this delicate flower is an endangered orchid of the North East. as the world around it becomes built up, there is less and less space for it to grow. it becomes trapped in between shopping malls and endless cul-de-sacs. what is holding you here?
Dispair / Depression
a plant once used to make women appear to be more beautiful, belladonna has a ghastly side effect : death. it is a dark place you must be in, to see that this is an appropriate risk for beauty. look closely at your fears and anxieties while in this dark spot. after all, it is still a part of ourselves.
Hemlock is an ancient poison, that at one point was even used on prisoners to bring about the end. while you may have hit rock bottom, know that we all must get here at some point in our lives, and albeit unpleasant, you have the strength within to rise above it.
it is thought that the sap from the Ash tree was fermented into the Norse Mead of Inspiration. it reminds us to look within, to use all our insight, because it is our greatest gift.
the Locust grows quickly, protected by thorns, and usually needs to be hacked back in fall, or else the tree would overtake the sky above, becoming top heavy and possibly be its own undoing. are you forcing matters too much? perhaps its time to take a step back, let go, and trust.
the sassafras puts out several leaf shapes on one tree, keeping you on your toes as you try to recognize the tree dotted throughout the woods around you.
the oak is the last tree to turn, and can hold its brown papery leaves throughout the winter. it is steady, strong and reliable. a symbol of justice, and the king of the wood.
