when you see these smiling carefree flowers popping up all around you the new season is here. plants are waking up and coming to life. even as they go to seed, the little babies float along on the wind without knowing just where they will fall.
II - Grass (the Magician)

grass spreads out all around us. from the great plains to home owners' well manicured lawns, this great network of little blades is able to captivate as much territory as it can. a true master of resources and action, it proves a little bit of energy can go a long way.
Gotu Kola connects us to the power within. brings strength to our subconscious, and allows us to connect to deeper parts of our mind. it allows for the receptive energy within us to come through and to focus on the dark, unconscious power that we all possess.
III - Corn (the Empress)

Corn is an invaluable crop. a bringer of life and the goddess of the home. from a little seed a great source of food springs up from the ground, which in turn gives life to a multitude of other creatures, humans included.
IV - Pine (the Emperor)
Protection / Stability / the Father
in many forests the pine springs up and stands tall as a part of the over-story. even as fall comes and many other trees drop their leaves the pine stands steady and true, holding its green foliage through the cold winter.
V - Datura (the Hierophant)
Mentor / Seeking Knowledge
a poisonous yet beautiful flower, Datura is also known as the witch's herb. they called upon her knowledge and power to find out more about the spirituality they seeked and was important in many of their rituals.
VI - Trillium (the Lovers)
Love / Union / Building Solid Relationships
trillium is a gentle flower of the woods. it grows in a delicate carpet connected together by a common root that if disturbed will affect not just one but all. the root is known to be used as an aphrodisiac.
VII - Peyote (Strength)
a mighty, glowing cacti used for spiritual practice. peyote gives you the power to look within, to call upon your calmest emotional strength to get you through. because brute force can only get you so far. this inner power has a longer lasting result.
VIII - Chicory (Justice)
Decisions / Balance of Right + Wrong
Chicory springs up out of the ground with a few wobbly flowers peeking out on top. one here. one there. it stands tall looking out over its landscape, reminding us it takes a balance of all things to maintain a healthy life.
IX - Mushroom (the Hermit)
Introspection / Solitude
not actually a plant, this fungi sits among other plant-life in the darkened spaces of the forest where its light-loving pals could not thrive. but still, it calls upon the power within to break down the decaying matter so that new life can grow.
X - Tumbleweed (the Wheel of Fortune)
Fate / Change / Destiny
one of the few plants that can lift itself up and move. but this movement isn't within its control. it's left up to fate to take this bumbling weed to its next location. you just have to trust that wherever its brought to is just another step in your own path, good or bad.
XI - Mullein (the Chariot)
Strong Will / Triumph
take a look around your wild landscape. chances you will find the fuzzy mullein plant either sitting low against the ground or standing tall with its staff filled with yellow flowers. it has a focus of power, spreading itself from coast to coast, overcoming any of the challenging terrain it comes upon.
XII - Willow (the Hanged Man)
Flexibility / Non-Attachment / Letting Go
the willow tree is known for its flexibility. it moves with the wind. a fallen branch can re-root itself if close to water. its beautiful leaves turn gold and drop in the fall. you may be faced with a choice and the best way to deal with this is to remain flexible and non attached. learn from the willow.
XIII - Poppy (Death)
Closure / Endings / Transformation
a plant sought out for its numbing qualities; the poppy transforms first from a leaf, to a beautiful red flower, and then it lets go of these beautiful petals, leaving a bulky seed pod just before its death. there are all kinds of cycles in life, so be open to the endings, it's just another step.
XIV - Cattail (Temperance)
Moderator / Find a Balance / Healing
the cattail sits between the land and the stillness of a pond, finding the perfect balance between its need for soil and water. its almost quiet presence is overlooked but it is simply intergrated perfectly into the landscape.
XV - Bindweed (the Devil)
Dependency / Addiction / Negativity
Bindweed's roots run deep beneath the soil and are stronger than they let on. seemingly they are pulled up easily, but it is an illusion. their roots snap, but that only removes what is shown above the surface. so much more runs beneath.
XVI - Pennyroyal (the Tower)
an eerily beautiful relative to the kind mint plant, pennyroyal can bring death to those who ingest it and is known as an abortive. change happens. sometimes it is hard, difficult, and terrible. but you will continue on and be stronger because of it.
XVII - Rosemary (the Star)
Hope + Serenity
rosemary is a comforting herb that reminds us of home. it is often a plant that we have been given at one point or another and is an inspiration to grow more.
XVIII - Waterlily (the Moon)
Darkness / Unconscious
the lily pads float just upon the surface but so much more lies below in the darkness of the water. trust your instincts because you will not be able to see with just your eyes.
XIX - Sunflower (the Sun)
Vitality / Clarity
the sunflower rises up over many other flowers late in the summer sun and smiles out over the horizon. it brings much joy and light to the landscape and reminds us that summer isn't quite over yet, but will come to a close. so enjoy this time while its here.
XX - Tulip (Judgement)
Forgiveness / Truth
the bulbs of the tulip lie in wait under the harsh winter ground. beneath snow and icy soil it waits patiently for the earliest signs of the spring sun. it is forgiving of these conditions and will raise its head up high, but don't assume spring is here just yet. a late snow could follow, don't jump to conclusions.
XXI - Apple (the World)
Completion / Harmony / Being Whole
fall is here and fruit is filling the branches of the trees. pies, cider, and caramel apples are to come. it is a time of year that brings everyone together and fills them with warmth.
